As I mentioned yesterday, for today, we booked a private tour (the guy at our hotel here in Lijiang helped us book it this time and not Trip.com; we paid 388 x 2 = 776 CNY / 97 Euros in total for both of us) and went to see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Yunshanping, Blue Moon Valley, and White Water Terraces. The driver picked us up at 8am from the area near our hotel, and by 4pm he dropped us off at the same place. The driver didn’t speak English, but thanks to the WeChat app, which translates his Chinese text into English immediately as he sends it, and vice versa, all was good.
More exactly, we departed at 8am and drove to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Tourist Center, which took about one and a half hours. After arriving at the visitor center, the driver gave us two oxygen cylinders (we ended up not using them) and two water bottles, which were included in the ticket price for free, after which we took the scenic area shuttle bus for around 15 minutes to reach the small cable car station. Here, we scanned the QR code present on our tickets and took the cable car up. After about seven or eight minutes, we got off at the midpoint of the mountain, since this cable car only went halfway up.
After getting off the cable car, we walked along the wooden boardwalk for about 20 minutes and arrived at Yunshanping (it has a nice meadow with a few sheep walking there). After visiting Yunshanping, instead of walking back down along the downhill wooden pathway to the cable car station (Dipty was lazy), we took the electric car (for which we paid 40 CNY for both of us) to bring us back to where we had previously disembarked (we even saw a few horses). We then took the cable car back down to the parking area.
From the parking area, we took the scenic shuttle bus to Blue Moon Valley. The shuttle dropped us off at the Blue Moon Valley parking area, also called Shuiyue Pavilion. From there, we walked down to the lakeside and explored upstream toward the snow mountain, and also saw the White Water Terraces. The water colour was amazing and also clean, being able to see all the fish and tree branches under the water. A lot of young couples ready to get married were here, taking pictures. It’s a booming business here in China to take wedding pictures near scenic sites like this one (it is the first in China to receive a 5 AAAAA rating).
After finishing the visit, we returned the same way and took the scenic shuttle bus back to Stop No. 3 at the tourist center, then contacted the driver via WhatsApp. He wanted to invite us to have a chicken hot pot (it was included in the price), but we refused due to both being vegetarians. We reached the hotel around 4pm and went out for the last time to do some small shopping and enjoy, for the last time, the wild mushroom hot pot, which was super delicious. Tomorrow we will fly to Beijing.
