Compared to other cities I’ve lived in, the food scene in Chemnitz is fairly limited, especially when it comes to good Italian cuisine. So I was genuinely excited to find out that L’Osteria opened its first location here in February 2025 under the name L’Osteria Chemnitz Rosenhof. I used to really enjoy their pizza when I lived in Oldenburg, and I was curious to see how the Chemnitz branch would compare.

The restaurant is located right in the city center. Since they don’t offer home delivery yet, we decided to go in person. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful setting and how busy it was. The place was packed, which felt like a promising sign that the food would be just as good as I remembered.

We ordered the same things we used to get in Oldenburg. We started with a portion of pizza brötchen with cheese, which oddly wasn’t listed on the menu here. I asked the waiter about it, remembering it from the Oldenburg menu, and he confirmed they still serve it. We also had a warm tomato soup, a pizza rucola, a pasta genovese, two glasses of white wine for Dipty, a glass of Primitivo red wine and a Coca-Cola for me, and finished with a tiramisu. They were all delicious. The total came to 74 €, which we thought was quite fair for the quality and generous portions.

It’s great to finally have a reliable place for pizza in Chemnitz. While we both still prefer Pizza Napoletana, which unfortunately isn’t available in the city, with the nearest being in Dresden, L’Osteria is a very welcome addition. We’ll definitely be coming back.
