Just yesterday, during the lunch break, I was talking with some of my ERCEA colleagues about what information is publicly available that I could share with people who would like to know more about ERC and how they can apply for an ERC grant.

Today, I would like to share with you three very recent videos made publicly available last month that you might find very useful.

Something just came to my mind while writing this post, namely: When I worked as a researcher for the German Aerospace Center, I heard few managers saying that they were more likely to invite someone for an interview if they had not only a good CV, but more importantly, a portfolio website where they could see also examples of projects the candidate was working on (this is nothing new; is what also big private companies like Google, Meta, etc. are usually doing, e.g., checking a candidate’s GitHub’s page to see the quality of their code). While working now for ERCEA, I heard a bright scientist from Türkiye which won several ERC grants saying in one of the meetings that Pincipal Investigators (PIs) can increase their chances of having a proposal more positively evaluated if they describe precisely what they will work on and, more importantly, mention all the weak points as well. The reason for this is that by pointing out the weak points, the reviewers reading the proposal can give more constructive feedback, which helps the PIs improve their proposals and knowledge. Ah, yes, and in case of a rejection, never quit trying again with an improved version, because persistence is one of the best keys to success.
