After four years working on my Ph.D. thesis in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Politehnica University of Timisoara, two years as an AI researcher at the German Aerospace Center, and six months as a researcher in neuromorphic computing at TU Chemnitz, today, I begin my new role as a Scientific Officer at the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) in Brussels, Belgium.

The ERCEA supports the European Research Council (ERC), which is dedicated to funding groundbreaking research across Europe. Since 2007, the ERC has driven scientific innovation by backing top researchers with bold ideas, regardless of their field. As part of the Physical Sciences and Engineering unit, I’ll support the evaluation of research proposals and the monitoring of ongoing projects.

The ERC’s grant programs, ranging from Starting Grants for early-career researchers to Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants, and Synergy Grants for established scientists, offer vital support to drive scientific progress, with a budget of €16 billion under the Horizon Europe framework. You can also read a research paper here about what matters when applying for an ERC Starting Grant.

Though I’m just starting, I’m eager to contribute to Europe’s pursuit of scientific excellence and to see firsthand how the ERCEA helps shape the future of research.

More updates to come as I dive deeper into this exciting journey!
