Trying a car wash for the first time in Chemnitz

It’s been almost two years since I bought my Dacia Duster Mat Edition, and today, for the first time, I took it to an automatic car wash here in Chemnitz. When I lived in Oldenburg, where I worked as a researcher at the German Aerospace Center, I used to wash the car manually at the SB Autowäsche.

Over the past eight months, I have barely driven the car, only once or twice. That’s because I spent six of those months in Brussels, working as a Scientific Officer at the European Research Council Executive Agency. Bringing the car with me didn’t make sense because public transport in Brussels is excellent, and the metro was more than enough for getting around.

Now that I am back in Chemnitz, I live in the Kaßberg district, which is known for its lack of available parking. Because of this, I pay 80 euros per month for a private parking spot.

Today, I visited the IMO Car Wash, which is close to where I live. I initially wanted the full detailing service for 79 euros, but the staff informed me that it requires an appointment since it takes around a full day to complete. I had expected it to take just one or two hours, so that was a surprise and a bit funny.

Instead, I chose the Ceramic XTR wash for 18 euros (I paid in cash, but there was also an option to pay with a card if I wanted). I’m not entirely sure if it is ideal for the Duster’s matte finish, but I noticed no scratches and the process took less than five minutes. After that, I used the free vacuum station to quickly clean the footwell area. Then I came home and enjoyed a delicious rajma.

And yes, it is correct what you see in the first picture below. After almost two years of owning this car, I have driven only 1,679 kilometers in total.
